Excuses Be Damned

We got held up on the way up, but we're here now so could you please cheer up now. Cos looking back won't make us look better will it? Can we just forget this hour? We'll be letting this one go. Make plans, I'll forget it. We'll make the next one better. I worked out you're feeling left out and I know it's not just about this one time, but being laid back is so attractive. What if it's all I've got? We'll be letting this one go. Make plans I'll forget it, you think I don't see that it's pathetic and useless and worthless and empty? So I'm late and forgetful, alcoholic and always impossible to make plans with for anything. We'll make the next one better.

Most Wanted Men

We were too young and too old. Our teenage years spent with whispered rumours of our best friend's bonerjams and conversely the thrill of catching some girl's eye and feeling much better about our lonely little lives. I swore I'd never say "I'm not a kid anymore", I'm sure I'll still be swearing next year. They never thought to tell us that all this growing up is disapointing as anything. I'd say that's why we're a little different now. We're all older but where did all this misguided pride come from when we're still stuck pollinating our clenched fists at bedtime and falling asleep to the sound of two girls fucking on a laptop. So tell me; is this progress if we're still joking about holding fucking hands again?

Too Many Dark Knights

What a punchline to all of this. While my self importance resonates aroudn this town, I've still got this problem of keeping my mouth shut when I should be shouting people down. So how could she mistake us for some common trouble makers with my shirt, tie and skateboard? She said "It's such a pity you came here from the city" I said "Babe, we're the locals who were too scared to go anywhere else". And I said "do you see how you're the problem here?" She said "No" "We’d all be innocents if you’d just validate us. And can you see the irony that by acting the vigilante you’re just a sure sign of the dark ages we’re still living in?"

Show me anyone whose priorities aren't fucking dumb and show you five who've all got love affairs with clothes and hair. And I've got no patience for describing products as brand-names. Saying that I'm yet to find my brand that I'm happy to identify with. What does tie-dye say about my state of mind, or better yet my way of life?
Can I not wear anything without making some stupid fashion statement? Maybe I’m just too small town. Aren’t we all drawn out of small towns? Yeah, we all are.

How many more bars will we storm out of tonight?
Cause I can’t see straight and you’re shouting at everyone. I’m in lipstick and you’re soaked through and sleeveless and I could do with sleeping soon. But you’re yelling "Back to mine, back to mine. We’re gonna drink all night" as I cringe into my hands on the bar. "Back to mine, back to mine. We won’t sleep tonight." Home’s just where you stop when comfort outweighs your sense of adventure. I say something like "When the invites stop we’ll have to leave this town" but I’m always saying shit like that and it’s so self indulgent and so fucking pointless cause we’ve all left homes before. Home’s just where you stop when comfort outweighs your sense of adventure, and I don’t think we’re there yet.

The Hard Way

Enter badly, throw a rose to the hostess and drink yourself enormous cos you don’t know anyone. And if you please, could you please them? If you think that you’re obnoxious then you probably are stuck in the hard way. Stuck in the hard way. So boy, keep your options open; to pass out or lash out. To pass out or lash out or burn out. Get those words out, get those words out; a shouted incoherent mess of insults
and platitudes like "you’re my favourite, you know I love you, but you don’t know when to shut up, so shut up shut up." Stuck in the hard way. Stuck in the hard way. So boy, keep your options open. We’ll pass out or lash out. We’ll pass out or lash out or burn out.

Huddle In

Expect the next one soon, before you settle in. You know you never will be shot of what they said and you don’t want to. Huddle in; it’s become a part of you. If you still believe in your world of freedom then I guess you’ll believe in almost anything. Do what you have to do to make them hate you; you know what’s best for them. You know you always do. When they say "fuck you", huddle in you know you’re winning. If you still believe in your world of freedom then I guess you’ll believe in almost anything.

Little Lives
03:15

It’ll be all over the papers by tomorrow, on breakfast tables and train seats. Why I left my house not smiling and every goddamned thing that that could mean. What little lives we lead, trapped in the vacuum of the towns that we live in. Treating celebrities like friends and friends like nobodies and enemies. So let’s keep our eyes closed so we can believe that your job was the problem and Paris was our city. Forget the stairs and the corridors and mulled wine in Camden and Chy Tea on Brighton beach. What little lives we lead, trapped in the vacuum of the towns that we live in. Treating celebrities like friends and friends like nobodies and enemies.

New Villains

Hand-me-down politics and my brother’s old jeans,
cos everything’s better once it’s worn in a little. So go outspend your friends now, because fuck it yeah? New villains take no prisoners and disregard heroes cos they’ll fight anything wont they? And on the subject, where did all the crime lords go; disguised as corporations and politicians and family friends. And I don’t know if I’m in the right or wrong, but the feeling keeps on growing that there’s few things more evil than fashion. And I’m pretty sure I’m right. I’m pretty sure. But I keep on thinking about all the girls I know whose skirts and magazines are all that get them through their working days. But I know, or I suspect, it’s motivated by a fear of falling behind perpetuated by the industry; what a waste of creativity, what a waste of time. What a waste of fucking life. New villains take no prisoners and disregard heroes ‘cause they’ll fight anything wont they? And on the subject, where did all the crime lords go; disguised as corporations and politicians and family friends.

Banging

‘Is every morning like this? Is every morning like this?’ I said, and she said ‘More or less’ as if that were an answer. And I couldn’t help wondering how much of a lie it was. But I’d rather a good lie than a dull truth any day, you know? ‘So what’s your favourite colour then? And tell me what your parents do. You don’t believe in one night stands, so let’s get married then. All that’s left to decide is the beach or the mountains. I’ll dress like a waiter, and you can be Commander Keen on a pogo stick. If your friends don’t like it, you’ll just have to get some more'. 'You’re better than most’ she said as I put my shirt back on ‘You can come again someday.’
